Turtles Want Teammates is the first book in Shannon Rauch(also known as Mermaid Shannon)’s motivate/imaginate/educate series.
The book is not only fun and educational but is a call to action for people of all ages and walks of life to participate. Real situations are presented with simple viable options that collectively could make an unprecedented positive impact on the marine debris situation and the animals that succumb to it.
The flow of the event begins with a check-in. Participants receive a Turtle Team packet containing a turtle stuffed animal , copy of the book , and Turtle Team pledge certificate.
Each child will receive a fun sticker or temporary tattoo to get into the spirit. Once everyone is checked in and seated , the reading will begin. World renown professional mermaid and ocean ambassador Shannon Rauch (Mermaid Shannon) perches in her giant inflatable clam shell in full realistic mermaid attire and reads the book to the children, inviting them to interact and discuss at certain points.
After the book is read, there will be a simulated demonstration of marine debris situation turning dangerous for an animal followed by a Q and A session.
The children will then line up and each take a picture with Mermaid Shannon , taking the TurtleTeam pledge and receiving a certificate along with a fact sheet and resources to learn more.
Shannon caps the event at 30 children per event (2 hours ) unless extra time is allotted.
Shannon can offer up to two sessions per day. Morning sessions for story hour or smaller children and evening / afternoon sessions for school age children.
The venue has the option to profit share. The cost of each child including the Turtle Team pack is $30.
The facility may retain $10 per ticket with Shannon retaining $20 for her costs. If the facility opts not to profit , they have the option to lower the price over all to $20 per child with 100% of revenue to Shannon OR designating their $10 from the $30 ticket to the charity of their choice – preferebly ocean or literacy related.
